New Beach Chair in Carlsbad 2022

Art in Carlsbad

A new art Beach Chair has been added to the growing collection of public art around Carlsbad. Do you know where it is?

The new Beach Chair was installed in the newly-completed gateway to Calavera Hills Community Park. This popular park is at 2997 Glasgow Drive, at the corner of Carlsbad Village Drive.

I think the imagery is perfect for our Village by the Sea.

This 1-acre entry-way to the park offers a shaded picnic area, and several pieces of exercise equipment (also shaded). There is plenty of grass and attractive flowers, too, all of which make this an appealing gateway to the park.

By the way, Calavera Hills Community Park is the site for 3 of the concerts in the TGIF Concerts in the Parks series.

The colorful, whimsical imagery, titled “The Island of Christopher P.,” is by artist Christopher Polentz. Check out his Instagram site.

The beach chair was designed and fabricated by artist Michael Stutz.

I understand there are 2 more beach chairs to come as part of the City of Carlsbad’s Pop-up Art Series.

Here’s a picture of the 1st Beach Chair installed by the Fountains in Carlsbad Village. Yes, that’s me lounging in the chair!

The 1st art Beach Chair debuted at the Art in the Village art fair in August 2019. Guess I’d better take a photo of me in the new chair, too.

Stay tuned for updates on the Art in the Village art fair. The 24th annual Art in the Village will be on June 26 in Carlsbad Village.

Carlsbad continues to grow its reputation as an arts community. This public art piece is a great example, plus it’s fun to see. Go check it out and sit a spell.
