San Elijo Hills (San Marcos)

San Elijo Hills, in the south west corner of San Marcos, is an award winning master planned community. San Elijo Hills was built on one of the highest points in North San Diego County with wonderful views.

Located some 30 miles from San Diego, and just east of Rancho Santa Fe Road, San Elijo Hills has a population of over 6,500.

San Elijo Hills was built beginning in 2002 and consists of well more than 3000 homes in a number of different villages. All have easy access to the Town Center (like communities in other parts of California and back East). Because of the hilltop location, many homes have dramatic views of the ocean, and panorama extending for miles.

San Elijo Hills has elementary and middle schools, part of the San Marcos Unified School District. The town center offers a number of shops, services, and places to eat. You’ll also find a post office, a gas station, small “food mart,” and Albertsons Grocery Store with Savon Pharmacy. The Town Center has added more retailers as the community has grown.

The San Elijo Hills Town Center includes a 30-acre educational campus and 19-acre city park. There are 1100 acres of open space and miles of hiking trails, with gorgeous views of the ocean, hills and panorama. There is even a Community Director, whose job is to assist residents in planning events and activities.

The main shopping area of San Marcos is perhaps a 10 minute drive, with a wide array of services, shops and restaurants. Since the community borders Carlsbad, there is easy access to the shopping, restaurants, golf, tourist attractions and beaches.

Homes in San Elijo Hills include condos, townhouses, attached and detached homes, and apartments. Many homes are of Mediterranean, Tuscan or Spanish style, however traditional American architecture is also evident. Some properties offer magnificent views of the hills, back country and west to the Batiquitos Lagoon and ocean.

Villages include: Acacia, Atherton, Azure, Calistoga, Morgan’s Corner (townhomes), Promontory Ridge, Waterford, Creekside Cottages, Luminara, WestCliffe, Crest View, WestRidge Cottage Homes, Mariner’s Landing, Palisades, WestRidge Village (townhomes), Meridian, Woodley’s Glen, Sagewood, Cambria, Saverne, Carmel, Springfield (townhomes), Cedar Crossing, Village Square (townhomes), Copper Creek (apartments) and a high-end gated community, The Estates.

In general, San Elijo Hills homes range in size from about 1,100 SF up to over 5,000 SF. Prices in recent years have been climbing and you can easily spend $1M to $2M.

There is lots of preserved open space and hiking trails. And a highlight, with fabulous views in all directions, is Double Peak Park, the highest point in North San Diego County. It’s worth the drive to take in the panoramic views, or go hiking.
