San Elijo Hills, in the south west corner of San Marcos, is an award winning master planned community on the highest point in North San Diego County.
Located about 34 miles from San Diego, and a short distance east of Rancho Santa Fe Road, San Elijo Hills has a population of over 6,500, which continues to grow as the remaining homes are built and occupied (as of 2019 they are still building new homes for sale in San Elijo Hills).
San Elijo Hills was built beginning in 2002 and consists of well more than 3000 homes in a number of different villages, all with easy access to a traditional Town Center (reminiscent of communities in other parts of California and back East) which continues to grow. Because of the location, many homes have dramatic distant views of the ocean and panorama extending for miles to the south, north and east.
San Elijo Hills has both elementary and middle schools, part of the San Marcos Unified School District. The town center offers a number of shops, service, several places to eat, a post office, a gas station, small “food mart,” and the Albertsons Grocery Store with Savon Pharmacy, with more retailers on the way as the area grows.
The San Elijo Hills Town Center also includes a 30-acre educational campus and 19-acre city park. There are 1100 acres of open space and miles of hiking trails, with gorgeous views of the ocean, hills and panorama. There is even a Community Director, whose job is to assist residents in planning events and activities.
The main shopping area of San Marcos is perhaps a 10 minute drive, with a wide array of services, shops and restaurants. Since the community borders Carlsbad, there is easy access to the shopping, restaurants, golf, tourist attractions and beaches.
Homes for sale in San Elijo Hills include condos, townhouses, attached and detached homes, and apartments, many of which are of Mediterranean, Tuscan or Spanish style, however traditional American architecture is also evident. Some properties offer magnificent views of the hills, back country and west to the Batiquitos Lagoon and ocean.
Villages include: Acacia, Atherton, Azure, Calistoga, Morgan’s Corner (townhomes), Promontory Ridge, Waterford, Creekside Cottages, Luminara, WestCliffe, Crest View, WestRidge Cottage Homes, Mariner’s Landing, Palisades, WestRidge Village (townhomes), Meridian, Woodley’s Glen, Sagewood, Cambria, Saverne, Carmel, Springfield (townhomes), Cedar Crossing, Village Square (townhomes), Copper Creek (apartments) and a high-end gated community, The Estates.
In general San Elijo Hills homes range in size from about 1,100 SF up to over 5,000 SF and can be priced to over $2M.
There is lots of preserved open space and hiking trails. And a highlight, with fabulous views in all directions, is Double Peak Park, the highest point in North San Diego County. It’s worth the drive to take in the views.
