March 2023 Carlsbad Art Wall

Art in Carlsbad

The 1st mural of 2023 for the Carlsbad Art Wall was finished last weekend. The creation is by Los Angeles-based artist, Daniel, known as Mister Toledo.

This is the 34th mural since the Carlsbad Art Wall was founded. We have seen some impressive diversity, creativity and beauty over the years.

Bryan Snyder, a well-known Carlsbad artist, founded the #CarlsbadArtWall in 2015. This was in cooperation with the owner of Senor Grubby’s Mexican Restaurant in Carlsbad Village.

Bryan is also the founder of the Carlsbad Alley Art Wall, and other art projects in Carlsbad.

The Carlsbad Art Wall is a beautiful opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy temporary public art by local, regional, and occasionally even international, artists. And it’s a wonderful way for artists to showcase their mural creativity.

The public can watch the artists at work on their creations. Murals are often painted over a 2-day period, usually Saturday and Sunday.

You may not have heard the official name, Carlsbad Art Wall, but have probably noticed the changing murals at Senor Grubby’s Mexican Restaurant’s east-facing wall if you live in the area or have visited Carlsbad Village.

You’ll find the Carlsbad Art Wall just west of the train tracks, across the street from the Carlsbad Village Faire Shopping Center, as you drive or walk to the beach.

Carlsbad has a growing reputation as an arts community with abundant public art (interactive map on the City of Carlsbad website). There are multiple art galleries, a live performance theater, several arts and crafts fairs, and music events throughout the year. The Carlsbad Art Wall is a special part of our vibrant arts community!
