Our biggest holiday of the summer is almost here, and Carlsbadians and visitors are making their plans for enjoying everyone’s favorite summer holiday. There’s lots to do so plan your schedules!
The 4th of July offers lots celebrations and fireworks in and around Carlsbad, plus private holiday festivities, cookouts and picnics, fun at the beach, and lots of friends and family gatherings.
The Carlsbad beaches generally are packed for the holiday weekend (remember the 4th is a Tuesday!) and parking is a premium – you will need to get there early to grab a spot throughout the holiday weekend. We usually see a lot of RVs parked along the coast road which take up extra space so parking is even more limited.
So here are my favorite opportunities to celebrate the 4th of July in Carlsbad and enjoy the fireworks:
Red, White and BOOM – the well-known and popular Legoland July 4th celebration on the 4th itself. Bring the kids and come enjoy 60+ rides, shows, and other attractions, plus games (water balloon toss, burlap sack races), and the awesome fireworks display visible for miles (for those choosing to sit at home). The celebration runs from 1 pm until 9 pm, with the Legoland fireworks at 8:30 PM. All festivities for Red, White and BOOM are included in overall admission.
Carlsbad TGIF Concerts in the Parks – a very popular Carlsbad annual tradition for 32 years, with free concerts on 9 consecutive Friday nights. Start the holiday weekend Friday June 30 with the 2nd concert, at Stagecoach Park in South Carlsbad, free to all, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM with intermission (and terrific raffle prizes) at 7 PM. Fireworks at the Omni La Costa Resort – these fireworks have been popular for years, especially for those living in the La Costa area adjacent to this world-famous resort. You can celebrate the entire 4th of July weekend at the Omni La Costa Resort with a host of activities including live music and great food. Cap off a terrific weekend with their famous fireworks Tuesday night, July 4, over the golf course at 9 PM, visible from all over!
Fireworks at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort
4th of July festivities at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in South Carlsbad include a sumptuous, expansive buffet in the Palm Courtyard, live music, and fireworks starting at 9 pm at the Tranquility Pool (beverages will be available for purchase).
OUTSIDE CARLSBAD:
There’s plenty of celebrations and fireworks outside of Carlsbad, too. You can enjoy fireworks and celebrations all over San Diego County, including the San Diego Big Bay Boom (4 stages around the bay and the biggest display on San Diego County, with fireworks at 9 PM), the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, San Marcos, the Escondido Independence Day Festival and Fireworks, Oceanside, San Diego’s Seaworld, an old fashioned 4th of July celebration in Oldtown, Glorietta Bay/Coronado and so much more.
