Carlsbad has a new, and very special, addition to our public art scene – the Carlsbad Alley Art Wall.
The Carlsbad Alley Art Wall was recently dedicated, and was founded and curated by Carlsbad artist Bryan Snyder.
The Carlsbad Alley Art Wall can be found at 550 Grand Avenue, on the alley wall adjacent to the former Café Ground Up (Tyler Street). However, the Café has closed. As a result, the space will become a new restaurant, the Village Kabob Mediterranean Grill.
This public art wall consists of 17 murals by different muralists, the latest completed in January 2022.
The artists have all painted at the Carlsbad Art Wall on Carlsbad Village Drive. The Carlsbad Art Wall, at Senor Grubby’s Mexican Restaurant, is also a creation of Snyder’s, in 2015.
Furthermore, there is a large Recreation Mural Space where aspiring muralists…mainly kids…can practice their painting. Thus, it’s ever-changing space, so stop by to see what’s been created, or to watch the live action.
We owe a special thank you to Brian for his innovative public art vision for Carlsbad Village. In addition, thank you for all the community support, including financial sponsorship, that made it possible.
Check out the Carlsbad Alley Art Wall on Instagram. You’ll find more information about the process, and some short videos of the action, too.
Carlsbad continues to grow and change as an arts community. It’s no surprise the Alley Art Wall is a wonderful addition and attracts a lot of attention. And likely will for a long time!
