The most recent Annual Makers Market: A Crafter’s Showcase, sponsored by the Carlsbad Village Association (CVA), was held December 5th in Carlsbad Village. The popular event is growing, and will continue this year in the Village on the 1st Saturday of each month – March 6, April 3, May 1 and June 5, 2021.
These events are Covid-safe and will be held, as before, outdoors at St. Michael’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church at 2775 Carlsbad Boulevard. These markets are FREE to attend, but you’ll need those credit cards or cash for gift buying! There is plenty of room for social distancing, and a limited number of booths to help keep everyone safe.
All health guidelines and protocols will be followed and enforced for all (staff, the public, vendors, volunteers) at each Makers Market Showcase, including wearing masks and observing social distance guidelines. A hand washing station will be available, as well as hand sanitizing stations!
These open air markets will offer terrific shopping opportunities (think Mother’s and Father’s Days, birthdays, Easter) with self-designed and handcrafted items from 40 local and regional artisans. Participants are juried only so you can expect the quality and creativity will be pretty special.
As with other arts and crafts events that have taken place in Carlsbad Village, you’ll find a wide array of hand-crafted items – beading, natural jewelry, leatherwork, 3D functional art, fabric creations, re-purposed materials, linen restoration, glass and so much more. Keep in mind these are not factory-production items but are all artisan-designed and hand-made, so you can expect some unique crafts. And the bonus is being able to talk with the creators, too!
There will be live music, and you might find some food discounts at some of the local eateries – there are certainly plenty of great places to eat in town.
And if you don’t find the perfect gifts at the Makers Market Crafter’s Showcase, or even if you do, there are plenty of retailers in Carlsbad Village just steps away to consider.
If you are an artisan interested in participating in one or more of these events you can apply online here.
Fall 2021 Makers Market Showcase dates are still to be announced.
