Lunches for Seniors at Carlsbad Senior Center

Carlsbad Community Services

The Carlsbad Senior Center at 799 Pine Street in Carlsbad Village (2 blocks south of Carlsbad Village Drive at Jefferson) provides a range of services for Carlsbad seniors, including recreation and classes.

One particularly important service are the senior hot lunches (age 60+) that are normally served in the dining room at the Center Monday through Friday. Given the Shelter in Place order, lunches are now available in 2 ways: (1) seniors can pick them up without leaving their cars at the front entrance, or (2) lunches will be delivered to those who need it.

Lunches are packed cold with heating instructions.

The Senior Lunch Program is funded by San Diego County and they reportedly have the capacity to handle up to about 500 lunches daily. Currently around 120 lunches are being picked up and a couple hundred or so are being delivered.

Seniors can call (760) 602-4650 to arrange for a meal the day before no later than 12 noon (not the day of pick-up). Once you are registered you do not need to keep calling unless you are canceling the service.

Pick-up hours at the Carlsbad Senior Center are between 11 am and 12 noon. Staff members are observing social distance recommendations and wearing gloves, and will bring the meal to your car – the back seat may be a good place for it.
