It’s Almost Time for the 2020 Carlsbad 5000 – POSTPONED

Carlsbad Marathon Runners

NOTE: DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS CONCERNS THE CARLSBAD 5000 HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 19 AND 20, 2020

If you are a serious runner, you are no doubt aware that the world’s fastest 5K is in Carlsbad, and it’s happening soon.

Others may not know this, but if watching these sorts of events interests you, know that the 35th Carlsbad 5000 takes place the weekend of March 21 and 22 in Carlsbad Village. And it should be a fun time for spectators as well as participants!

The Junior Carlsbad is on Saturday with a number of races for kids – a diaper dash, toddler dash, and ½ and 1-mile races for kids 7 to 12 . The Wellness Expo also happens on Saturday, from 8 am until 1 pm, in the parking lot at Roosevelt and Carlsbad Village Drive.

Sunday is the big day with the Carlsbad 5000. There are a number of age categories and those who are really interested can take part in the All Day 20K, a series of 4 5-K races. The Wellness Expo opens at 7 am this day.

This event is nicknamed the Party by the Sea, due to all the festivities, and the big celebration when it’s all over.

Don’t miss the post-race happenings on Sunday with live music and more, including 2 free beers from Pizza Port for participants in the beer garden (ages 21 and over with ID).

Like the Carlsbad Marathon and Triathlon, the Carlsbad 5000 is very popular, so you can be sure there will be lots of spectators along with all the runners – plan to arrive early to find parking in the Village (it’s still all free) and along the course to cheer on the runners and enjoy the festivities.

Whether or not you go to watch bear in mind that, as with other Carlsbad races, there will be a number of road closures, too, including Carlsbad Boulevard (the Coast Road).
