Frida Kahlo’s Garden – Cannon Art Gallery Exhibit in Carlsbad

Art in Carlsbad

The Cannon Gallery, located at the Dove Library Complex in South Carlsbad, features several wonderful exhibits each year. The current one, Frida Kahlo’s Garden, is truly special.

Carlsbad has a wonderful reputation as an arts community for many reasons. And we are especially blessed to have the city-owned Walter D. Cannon Art Gallery.

ABOUT FRIDA KAHLO’S GARDEN EXHIBIT

You have until October 20th to tour the exhibit. If you are an art lover, you should take the opportunity to see it. Kahlo is considered to be one of the more significant artists of the twentieth century (as noted in the gallery’s brochure).

Frida Kahlo's Garden exhibit

We visited yesterday and it was such a treat. There are several reproductions of Frida Kahlo’s paintings, photographs, authentic memorabilia (from a private collector), a traditional dress, some pottery, her address book and more. The exhibit features abundant information to read and view about Kahlo’s life (1907 – 1954), her inspirations, and her time with husband/painter Diego Rivera. All of this added a much more personal touch to the exhibit.

Walk-ins are welcome but unfortunately the remaining guided tours are booked. But no worries, you will still enjoy seeing this special traveling exhibit on your own. The exhibit is presented courtesy of the NEH on the Road (an initiative by the National Endowment for the Humanities).

GALLERY HOURS

The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday from Noon until 7:00 pm, and on Friday and Saturday from Noon until 5:00 pm.
