The first skateboard park in the world was in Carlsbad. Skateboarding became popular in the 60s – the thing for surfers to do when they couldn’t surf – and grew increasingly so in the 1970s. There is a wonderful recently-built skate park by the Carlsbad Safety Training Center off El Camino Real.

Our Carlsbad Strawberries are famous. The Carlsbad Strawberry Company can be found along Cannon Road across from Car Country by the I5 freeway.

The Carlsbad Flower Fields contain acres of beautiful ranunculas that typically bloom from mid March until early May on the hills adjacent to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets Mall, between Armada Drive and Paseo Del Norte. This highly popular tourist attraction draws thousands of visitors every year.

Did you know that Legoland California in Carlsbad is one of Legoland’s 7 theme parks – the others are in the UK, Germany, Denmark, Dubai, Malaysia, and Florida

Leo Carrillo was a well-known screen actor (The Cisco Kid TV series), philanthropist and environmentalist who built a hacienda and working ranch of over 1000 acres in Carlsbad in the 1900s. The hacienda and outbuildings have been preserved along with some acreage, and many additional acres of the original ranch have been developed into the master planned community, Rancho Carrillo

Carlsbad is the hometown of Shaun White, professional snow boarder and 2-time Gold Medalist for snowboarding at the Winter Olympics as well as winner of many medals at the X Games

Carlsbad has 3 lagoons – Batiquitos (bordering Encinitas) in South Carlsbad, Aqua Hedionda (by the power plant north of Cannon Road, and Buena Vista (bordering Oceanside). Only the Aqua Hedionda lagoon allows water activities and boating

The Carlsbad Triathlon is one of the longest running triathlons in the world (top 5) and is one of several popular athletic events in Carlsbad including the Carlsbad Marathon
