Carlsbad Marathon 2020 is This Weekend January 18-19

Carlsbad Marathon Runners

You probably have seen the signs around Carlsbad recently, reminding everyone about the popular Carlsbad Marathon taking place this weekend (Sunday is the BIG day!). The main reason for sharing this post is to remind residents and visitors that there will be plenty of crowds, AND a number of road closures.

The main road closure to be aware of is the Coast Road/Carlsbad Boulevard, closed from north of Carlsbad all the way south to La Costa Avenue. In general, road closures will be from around 5 am until 2 pm.

The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon is on Sunday January 19th. Don’t forget this is also the Martin Luther King holiday weekend (the holiday is officially Monday the 20th)!

Once again the Carlsbad marathon is a qualifying event for the famous Boston Marathon, and there will be plenty of runners hoping to qualify!

The Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon also includes a Double Down Challenge (2 races – the 5K and then the half marathon, a total of 16.2 miles) and the Surf SunRun 5K.

The Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon are popular with world class and amateur runners, and naturally plenty of viewers along the course. This is a favorite marathon due to the location and views, the gently rolling course, and of course our January weather.

The marathon and half marathon both start and finish at The Shoppes at Carlsbad mall but follow different courses.

On Saturday kids can take part in the Kids Marathon Mile for all ages and abilities, at world-famous Legoland.

As in the past there is a Health and Lifestyle Expo on Friday January 17th from 12 noon until 5 pm at The Shoppes at Carlsbad off El Camino Real in Carlsbad (just south of the 78 freeway). The Expo continues on Saturday, from 10 am until 5 pm. .

And everyone, runners and viewers, can join in the fun at the Finish Line festival with refreshments, live music and a beer garden (21 and older only).
