Art lovers in Carlsbad will be pleased at the return of the 27th Annual Art in the Village on Sunday June 22. The fair runs from 10 am until 6 pm and is free to attend.
This popular fine art event will feature over 130 local and regional artists. Art in the Village artist booths will be found along State Street and Grand Avenue in the heart of the Village.
Art in the Village is sponsored by the Carlsbad Village Association. There will be both new and returning artists. The website lists the 2024 participating artists but the 2025 roster is still to be posted (I will update this post accordingly).
Artists are selected by a jury so you can expect high quality works of art. All artwork is handcrafted and unique. Furthermore, you can talk with the artists about their creations and learn more about what inspired them. (photo below is from another Carlsbad art fair).
Carlsbad is known for its 1-day art fairs (there are 4 major ones each year). Whether you are an art lover and collector or not, strolling the Village streets to enjoy beautiful art and live music on a summer Sunday can be an enjoyable thing to do. It’s fun to browse even if nothing calls you to “buy me!”
In addition to beautiful artwork, you can enjoy interactive demonstrations (e.g., sculpting, pottery making), performance art, and live music.
You’ll also find the popular Chalk Zone featuring beautiful chalk creations. Come watch the chalk artists at work and see their creations unfold. Chalk Zone is in the parking lot adjacent to the fountain (corner of State Street and Grand Avenue).
The City of Carlsbad will host a Family Open Studio area for art enthusiasts of all ages to create their own masterpieces.
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU EXPECT AT ART IN THE VILLAGE
If past Art in the Village Fairs are any indication you are sure to see an impressive array of art work. You can expect contemporary and classical sculpture, ceramics and pottery, digital art, photography, and jewelry. You’ll also find paintings (watercolors, oils, acrylics, and mixed media), wood creations, metalworks, glassworks, and much more.
Don’t forget to bring your credit cards and/or cash in case something grabs your attention!
Our late June weather is usually pretty nice and a great time to enjoy the outdoors and the beach. Carlsbad Village art fairs typically are crowded, so you should expect some parking challenges. The good news is Carlsbad Village parking is still free. However, consider your travel time accordingly and plan that you may need to walk a distance from your parking spot.
The Coaster commuter rail station is 1 block away if you prefer public transportation to avoid parking issues or are coming from a distance. If you tire of exploring the art, there are plenty of retailers in the downtown area to visit. There are multiple dining options, wine bars and coffee shops in Carlsbad Village, too. And the beautiful Carlsbad beaches are just 2 blocks away for a walk before or after spending time at the fair.
