5th Annual State Beach Classic in Carlsbad

Summer Fun in Carlsbad CA

Who doesn’t love a good beach party?

Well, the 5th Annual State Beach Classic: A Tribute to Bannon Capps will take place in Carlsbad THIS SUNDAY, June 2 at Tamarack State Beach just south of the Village.

The Classic starts at 8 am and runs until 7 pm.

This popular Carlsbad beach party and surfing competition has continued to grow since it was founded in memory of Bannon Capps. The State Beach Locals Surf Club originated as a way to enjoy the sport of surfing and protect the ocean.

After the death of one of the locals, Bannon Capps, the State Beach Classic was created by Ulises Thomas in his memory and the event has taken off. Indeed it has become THE summer event for friends and families to gather on the beach for a great time, to enjoy food, music, raffles, and contests, plus some impressive surfing in multiple divisions (e.g., Groms, Men, Women, Juniors, Masters, Grand Masters and Long Board plus a Pro Division) with both professionals and novices.

What started as a simple event has grown to include multiple competitions, and an impressive list of sponsors (Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club, Breakwater Brewing Company, Digital Solutions Marketing, and Knockout Pizza, to name just a few).

Proceeds will benefit the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club, and Carlsbad High School’s Banning Capps Scholarship fund.
