2024 Leo Carrillo Film Festival Carlsbad

Summer Fun in Carlsbad CA

Summer evenings are a great opportunity to enjoy being outdoors in Carlsbad. If you like historic movies, the Leo Carrillo Film Festival at the former ranch of the Hollywood actor may be the perfect combination.

The 2024 Annual Leo Carrillo Film Festival takes place on 3 consecutive Friday nights – August 23, August 30 and September 6.

Leo Carrillo Ranch Park is a beautiful preservation of the land, hacienda, and other buildings owned by Hollywood film and TV star Leo Carrillo. Furthermore, Carrillo is probably best known for his role as Pancho in the 1950s TV series “The Cisco Kid”. A visit to this historic park in the heart of the Rancho Carrillo master planned community is well worth it. Additionally, ou may also enjoy the wandering peacocks. And admission is free!

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT THE FILM FESTIVAL?

2 historic films will be featured with Hollywood actor, Leo Carrillo. “Moonlight Murder” (1936) is August 23, and “The Gay Bride” (1934) is on August 30.“

The 3rd feature, not starring Carrillo, is “Roman Holiday” (1953), and is offered as a movie Leo Carrillo would presumably like. Be aware that movies are subject to change without notice.

Movies begin around sunset, and the Park opens at 5:30 PM. In addition, tours of the Hacienda are available until approximately 7:30 before the movie starts. I’ve taken the Hacienda tour in the past and recommend it. As a result it’s great fun to experience the history of this special historic place in the heart of Carlsbad.

Moreover, the Leo Carrillo Ranch Park is a registered California Historic Landmark and has been beautifully preserved.

The snack bar will offer beverages and gourmet snacks for purchase. You should bring a low-back chair, flashlight, blanket, and wear warm clothes. Moreover, evenings along the Carlsbad coast can get chilly even in the summer with those ocean breezes!

The movies are free, however, you must register online for tickets. In addition, there is a limit of 2 tickets per person. Tickets are available now.
