2023 Carlsbad 5000 is April 2

Things to Do in Carlsbad Village

The 2023 Carlsbad 5000 is April 2 in Carlsbad CA

Carlsbad hosts a number of premier running events each year. The Carlsbad 5000 is reportedly the world’s fastest 5K race. Several world and US records have been set, and broken, since this race was established in 1986. Runners will no doubt try to do so again on April 2, 2023!

The Carlsbad 5000 is presented by National University.

You still have time to register online. However, don’t delay since this event usually sells out. (photo courtesy of Pixabay.)

Runners

There are multiple races on Sunday April 2. The Junior Carlsbad race is for kids ages 4 to 12; either a ½ mile (ages 4 to 6) or 1 mile (7 to 12).

Furthermore there’s the Carlsbad 5000 (5K), as well as the All Day 20K (four 5K races) with 4 categories of runners. The Elite Invitational, with prizes, is also held on April 2, and is by application and invitation only.

The Health and Fitness Expo is held in the parking lot at Roosevelt and Carlsbad Village Drive. The Expo is 10 am until 3 pm on Saturday April 1st. Runners should pick up their race kits at the Expo.

The Expo is also open from 7 am to 2 pm on Sunday. You can expect lots of sports equipment, apparel, and more with multiple exhibitors.

Post-race celebrations in the Village at the finish line will offer live music. The Pizza Port Beer Garden is open from 8:00 am to 2:00 (ages 21 and over with ID).  5K participants receive 2 free beers with their registration.

Since the Carlsbad 5000 is popular, expect a large crowd of participants and spectators. Plan to arrive early to find free parking in the Village, and along the course to cheer on the runners and enjoy the festivities. Be aware there will be some parking restrictions.

Remember there will be a number of road closures including Carlsbad Boulevard (the Coast Road).
