2022 Skating by the Sea San Diego

Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado

It’s almost time for the popular Skating by the Sea at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. I suspect this is the only beachfront ice skating in San Diego!

Skating by the Sea starts Thursday, November 17th and runs through January 1st 2023.

Imagine ice skating under a bright blue sky with palm trees waving, the sun shining, and a gorgeous beach and ocean just steps away!? However, you MAY need a sweater or jacket, especially with our fall and winter ocean breezes.  At the same time, typically at this time of year you can expect temps in 50s to low 60s at the beach. Furthermore, there is no snow to worry about…just ice!

Skating by the Sea

The iconic Hotel Del Coronado, built in 1888, is a special place by the ocean. The Hotel Del is great fun for visiting, dining, or just drinks any time. But it’s particularly nice during the holidays, despite the crowds, when the property and hotel are beautifully decorated. There is plenty of shopping in the area, and people-watching is fun. Plus you can watch the skaters or even join in!

You might enjoy watching from several Hotel Del restaurants adjacent to the rink area. On the other hand enjoy reserved seating at the rink-side Frostbite Lounge with fire pits, comfortable seats, and beverage and food service.

Skating by the Sea proceeds will benefit the San Diego Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Here’s the schedule (hours subject to change due to weather). In addition, note the hours for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day, and New Year’s Eve and Day.

The cost is $40 per person in advance online ($35 for hotel guests and club members). Military (Mondays and Wednesdays) and First Responders (Tuesdays) get $5 off with ID.
