2022 Carlsbad 5000 is May 22

The famed 2022 Carlsbad 5000 is coming, May 21 and 22 in Carlsbad CA.

Carlsbad hosts multiple premier athletic events during the year. The Carlsbad 5000, which is May 22, is reported to be the world’s fastest 5K run. A number of world and US records have been set, and broken, over the years. No doubt runners will attempt to do this again!

The Carlsbad 5000 is presented by National University.

There’s still time to register online for the 5K and the Junior Carlsbad. The All Day 20K (four 5-K races) is sold out! [photo is from a different running event]

The Junior Carlsbad race is for ages 4 to 12, either a ½ mile (4 – 6) or 1 mile (7 – 12) distance. Of course there is the popular 5K plus the All Day 20K (four 5-k races) with 4 categories of runners.

Sunday will also feature the Elite Invitational run with cash prizes.

The Health and Fitness Expo takes place in Carlsbad Village, in the parking lot at Roosevelt and Carlsbad Village Drive. The Expo is from 10 am until 3 pm on Saturday and includes race kit pickups. On Sunday the Expo is from 7 am to 1 pm. Attendees will find equipment, apparel, and more from multiple vendors.

Don’t miss the post-race celebrations on Sunday with live music (Betamaxx). The Pizza Port Beer Garden is open from 8:00 am to 2:30 for ages 21 and over with ID.  5K participants receive 2 free beers with their registration.

Here’s the schedule for the weekend.

The Carlsbad 5000 is popular, so expect lots of participants and spectators. You should arrive early to find parking in the Village and along the course to cheer on the runners and enjoy the festivities.

There will be a number of road closures, too, including Carlsbad Boulevard.
