13th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa 2021

Things to do in Carlsbad

It’s not in Carlsbad, but you can still attend from the comfort of your family room. The 13th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa, will take place on Sunday February 28, beginning at 3 pm.

The previous 12 concerts were all live…and they were wonderful…but 2021 is a bit different because of the pandemic.

The 2021 Brasil Jazz Festa will be live streamed on YouTube:

3:00 pm     San Diego

3:00 pm     Los Angeles

1:00 pm     Honolulu

6:00 pm     New York

8:00 pm     Sao Paulo, Brazil

Here’s the line-up for 2021, on a smaller scale than in the live concerts (in no particular order):

Justin Grinnell – Bass; Jose Amato – Guitar; Julian Cantelm – drums; Allison Adams Tucker – voice; Stefanie Schmitz – percussion, clarinet, saxophone

It’s sure to be a wonderful celebration of Brazilian jazz with some very talented musicians and vocalists (all of whom I’ve hear before on more than one occasion), as it has been for the last 12 years!

There is also a live option in Del Mar in a private garden setting for 20 people (masks and social distancing must be observed) at $30 each. I’m not sure there are any seats left but you can inquire at AllegatoMusic AT gmail DOT com.

I have a particular fondness for this annual concert, having attended the first 4 of these festivals when they were held in Encinitas at the Public Library starting in 2008, and a number of others since moving to Dizzy’s in San Diego.  My wife and I have gotten to know a number of the musicians, and have attended solo concerts they’ve shared in the San Diego community over the years. I’m looking forward to this one!
