While this is not in Carlsbad, if you are a jazz lover, particularly of Brazilian jazz like me, then this concert is for you!
The 12th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa (the first was in Encinitas in 2008) is being held at Dizzy’s Jazz in San Diego where it’s been held for a number of years. Mark your calendar – it’s Friday March 6th beginning at 7 pm and tickets (only $20 but $25 at the door) are on sale now.
Here’s the line-up: long time favorites include the Danny Green Trio (Danny Green – keyboard, Justin Grinnell – bass, and Julian Cantelm – drums) and Allison Adams Tucker’s Tribute to Brazilian vocal legend Elis Regina. We have gotten to know both and attended multiple concerts over the years in addition to most of the Brasil Jazz Festa concerts.
The 2020 Brasil Jazz Festa will also feature Brazilian guitarist Julio Lemos and Cajuína and Forró Brazil (Stefanie Schmitz clarinet/saxophone, Kenny Beaumont guitar/voice, Emi Cara percussion, JP Hewett drums).
We have never been disappointed in any of the Brazilian concerts and no doubt this one will again be top-notch. Yes, it’s a bit of a trip downtown from Carlsbad, but well worth it. Parking is free and the venue is fairly small and intimate so you can be pretty close to the performers! See you there!
