After 15 years in corporate Human Resources positions, my wife and I opened a successful art gallery in Cambridge, MA (across the river from Boston) which we operated from 2002 to 2004. I obtained my real estate license and began working for RE/MAX Destiny in Cambridge, home of Harvard University and MIT, in June 2002.
In the Spring of 2005 my wife and I made a tough decision to relocate to Carlsbad, California and bought our 9th home in the La Costa area of Carlsbad so we could be near the beaches, and not too far from downtown San Diego, or Los Angeles where our older daughter was in school.
I began working for RE/MAX Associates in Encinitas in June 2005, that later became RE/MAX Moonlight Beach, created after RE/MAX Associates was restructured in 2008.
I made the move to a new brokerage, SOLUTIONS REAL ESTATE, soon after they opened their Carlsbad office, in January 2011, where I am today. I use the office occasionally when meeting clients, but primarily work out of my home office in Carlsbad. I meet new clients at the brokerage office, but often at local coffee shops, too!
I have been a primary home buyer and seller 10 times, and have bought and sold a business condo and 2 vacation properties, one waterfront, in 4 different states. So I understand the issues of buying and selling from the consumer’s perspective, and have had some difficult transactions to navigate, experience which benefits you whether you are buying, selling or doing both. I really DO understand the practical AND emotional aspects of what it’s like to buy and sell a home.
I have relocated a number of times and understand the process well. I have moved very young children, pets, and cars, and specialize in working with buyers and sellers who are making a significant move to or from Southern California. Plus I am familiar with the business side of relocation from my years as a Human Resources professional, including corporate relocation programs and packages, and working with relocation companies.
Training, education and technology are incredibly important in the real estate business, and are needed and expected, if not demanded, by today’s buyers and sellers. I keep current with today’s technology but also obtained my e-Pro Designation to expand my technology expertise.
I am 1 of the 3% of all US REALTORS with the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation, which required advanced coursework in technology, marketing, referrals, and buyer and seller strategies, and had rigorous production/experience requirements. The value for you as a buyer or seller are the many advanced strategies I know for marketing your home or helping you find the right property and acquiring it, my understanding and use of today’s technology, and the many experiences I have had in a wide range of buying and selling scenarios.
My Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) certification provided additional training on how to best assist the senior population (i.e., communities that are age restricted to 55 years of age and older) with their buying and selling decisions.
GIVING BACK TO THE REAL ESTATE COMMUNITY
I am active in the Residential Real Estate Council, or RRC (previously known as the Council of Residential Specialists) organization at the state level to support their educational programs in California and to continue my own real estate education, and began serving on the Board of Directors for the Southern California Chapter of CRS in 2007 (positions served included Area Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and President-Elect). I was the President for 2011, the year we won CRS Chapter of the Year, as well as heading up the Technology Committee, and served as the Technology Chair through 2014. I was the Chair of the Educational Forum for the National CRS Organization for 2014, and was Vice Chair of another National Committee, Membership Development, in 2015. I Chaired that committee in 2016 and also served as Regional Vice President for the New England Region from 2014 – 2016. I was on the National Mastermind group on education in 2017 – I strongly believe n continuing education in this business so I can better help buyers and sellers – and am on the leadership team for the CA RRC group co-chairing the Membership Committee (2017 – 2018).
The networking and learning from involvement in the National Residential Real Estate Council organization has contributed significantly to my real estate education and knowledge, but has also enabled me to build a tremendous network of high-caliber agents around the country that I can refer clients, or their friends and family, to in most metropolitan and nearby areas.
