We learned about the Sand N’ Straw Community Farm from our next door neighbor. Today we decided to check it out.
The Farm Stand is open on Saturday from 9 to 12. You can simply walk in and pick up produce, root vegetables, herbs, and fresh eggs. They have other plant-based products as well. Head over first thing in the morning for the best selection. Here’s what we selected this morning.
The Farm Box Program offers 2 types of “Farm Boxes.” You can order a Half Share (5 – 7 different items) or a Full Share (10 – 12 items). A Half Share works well for 1 or 2 people, while the Full Share is good for 3 to 4 people. A box could last for up to a week depending on your eating habits.
The offerings in each Farm Box vary by what is currently at peak harvest, what’s available, and the season. You can pick-up your Farm Boxes between 1 and 5 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. Order Farm Boxes online by the week or set up an on-going order.
The cost is $35 for a Full Share Box. Half Share Boxes are $20.
Sand N’ Straw Community Farms offers workshops and special events each month. Kids will enjoy visiting with the farm’s animals (sheep, pigs, goats, chickens) on Saturdays from 9:30 until 11:30.
Sand N’ Straw Community Farm also offers the Young Pioneers Program, a varied curriculum of educational opportunities for kids. The Young Pioneer Program is created by experienced teachers, offering outdoor classrooms and hiking trails for nature-based learning opportunities.
Sand N’ Straw Community Farm is at 629 Mar Vista Drive, about ½ mile off the 78 freeway in Vista.
