DAY 9 – The Cannon Art Gallery, Carlsbad City-Owned Gallery

Carlsbad has a fine, and growing reputation as an art community, and the city-owned CANNON ART GALLERY is one very good reason for that reputation.

The CANNON ART GALLERY is located adjacent to the Dove Library in South Carlsbad, one of the two library locations. Gallery Director and Curator Karen McGuire does an amazing job of bringing in exhibits featuring artists of regional, national and international acclaim. This includes well-known and popular traveling exhibitions – the Smithsonian photography being just one example – and their very popular biennial juried show.

There are usually 4 – 6 exhibits per year at the CANNON ART GALLERY, the shows open with a reception the evening before the exhibit officially starts, and Family Open Studios are held midway through the show, with opportunities for participants to make their own artistic creations that relate to the current show.

Being a city-owned gallery, Cannon Art Gallery is free to the public for all exhibits and receptions.
