The AGUA HEDIONDA LAGOON is one of 3 lagoons in Carlsbad. We are indeed fortunate to have these preserved areas in our community, and dedicated volunteers and organizations who strive to preserve them.
This 400 acre lagoon is loaded with flora and fauna,and the AGUA HEDIONDA LAGOON DISCOVERY CENTER is a terrific way to learn more about the history of the lagoon, and all the critters that inhabit the area. There are loads of exhibits, lectures and hikes, educational programs with the school system and so much more.
The AGUA HEDIONDA LAGOON is the only lagoon that allows motorized recreational boating, and there is a white sea bass fish hatchery and a mussel and abalone aquaculture facility on the west end adjacent to the coast road.

The AGUA HEDIONDA LAGOON DISCOVERY CENTER is located at the East end of the lagoon, at 1580 Cannon Road in Carlsbad. There is also a Coffee Kiosk there as well to enjoy before or after your tour and walk around the Agua Hedionda Lagoon.
