Carlsbad Village Faire 2018 is May 6

Carlsbad Village Faire

Spring is here and fair season is upon us. And one of San Diego’s favorite arts and crafts fairs is coming soon. It’s still a few weeks away, but better to plan now and get it on your calendar for the first weekend in May.

The Carlsbad Village Faire, the 44th this year, is supposedly the nation’s largest 1-day outdoor street fair, taking place on Sunday May 6 from 8 am until 5 pm in the heart of the Village. The fair is held along Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson and spills over onto side streets including State Street over to Carlsbad Village Drive.

There are actually 2 Carlsbad Village Faires each year, the second one is in November (in 2018 it’s on the 4th), and both are impressive events. While it sounds a bit cliché-ish, there IS something for everyone with 800+ fair vendors and all the local Carlsbad Village retailers right there.

You can expect a crowd of around 100,000 people attending to check out clothing, arts and crafts, gift items, collectibles, accessories, plants and garden items, antiques, products from around the world, and much more. Other attractions include multiple food booths at the International Food Court, and the annual Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast at the Carlsbad Train Depot from 7 am until 12 noon, a favorite for 25 years.

If you actually tire of all the fair vendors you can explore the wealth of restaurants and retailers in the Carlsbad Village area on the side streets, including those at the popular Village Faire at 400 Carlsbad Village Drive just west of the railroad tracks.

And the Carlsbad beaches are just a couple of blocks away for a walk before or after the fair, if you have the energy.

You can expect that parking is very limited due to the crowds so plan to arrive early – the good news is parking is still free in Carlsbad. Free shuttles will be offered every 15 minutes throughout the day as always – at the NW corner of the parking lot by Sears at The Shoppes at Carlsbad/Westfield Mall (at the 78 and El Camino Real/Jefferson), and the Poinsettia Coaster Station on Avenida Encinas between Palomar Airport Road and Poinsettia.
