The well-known Flower Fields in Carlsbad CA will be open to the public in less than 1 week, on Thursday March 1.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields take a while to reach their peak so don’t expect this photo of the fields in full bloom on day 1, but it’s fun to anticipate what they will look like in a few weeks. And they ARE mighty impressive to see, up close or from a distance!!
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are very popular, and have been for more than 6 decades, offering brightly colored Ranunculas on about 50 acres of extraordinary color that seem to get more beautiful with each passing day. During the year it’s fun to see the brown dirt hillside transform first to green, and then to vibrant colors, and then back again to brown dirt.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields are open for less than 3 months annually, typically opening March 1, and traditionally closing Mother’s Day which is May 13th this year (that’s a hint!).
There are multiple special events (Girl Scout Day, Blues Day and other musical events), flower arranging workshops, sunset wine tastings and music pairings, an artist garden, and so much more. And you don’t want to miss the final special event on Mother’s Day.
Many visitors enjoy walking through the fields to experience the flowers close up. But they also offer and an antique tractor wagon ride to really appreciate the beauty of Carlsbad’s beautiful Flower Fields up close. Plus it’s easier on the feet!
The Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch can be readily seen from the I-5 Freeway – just look to the east (unless you are driving) – at the Palomar Road Exit at 5704 Paseo del Norte (look for the windmill) adjacent to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets Mall.
And in my humble opinion the best, and FREE, vantage point is looking down on the fields from Armada Drive, with the Carlsbad windmill and 180 degree views of the ocean. I stop by often on my way to and from Costco.
